The people’s choice award is given to the piece that receives the most votes during the exhibition.

This year’s award winner is Cody Dimmett for his piece “Compassionate Jesus”.

Cody wrote about this piece,

If there is a scripture that puts the whole Gospel in a nutshell, it is the Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6:9-13. Jesus’ compassion for others is shown in the Lord’s Prayer. Jesus was a man of deep prayer. As I read the Lord’s Prayer, I see a very personal and compassionate side of Jesus. The God Father to whom I pray treats me as a loving father deals with his own
children.

The medium that I chose to work in is called claybord. I worked in scratchboard last year in drawing class and really liked the process of removing the ink to get to the white portion of the board. This year in Advanced Art, my art teacher gave me a piece of claybord to try and I immediately liked it. The black and white qualities of the medium remind me of the crucifixion of Jesus (the black) and his resurrection (the white). I chose the Lord’s Prayer to scratch under the portrait of the crucified Jesus because the Lord’s Prayer not only shows me how to pray but how to live.

“Compassion” will be an exhibition & sale of small works.

Small Works

The image area for Each 2-D or photography piece submitted may not exceed 154sq in. The footprint for each 3-D piece submitted must not exceed 12″ in any direction. For example, 12×12 would equal 144sq in. 8×19 would equal 152sq in. There is no restriction for how the 154sq in. are determined (with the exception of a width of more than 42″, so 3.5×44 would be acceptable only if the 3.5″ was the length and not width of the presentation).

Sale of Original Work

We encourage artists to not only enter for exhibition, but to also consider offering each piece for sale. A significant portion of pieces available for sale are expected to sell. We are attempting to encourage the creation of original art through the support of artists and the development of local patrons.

Each artist is encouraged to offer his or her piece for sale. Each artist may determine the sale price, but please consider that Olive Tree Arts retains 25% of the sale price for administrative costs incurred to put on the show. All income exceeding expenses will be invested back into the local arts community.
